YANGON, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) – Myanmar welcomed 751,216 international tourists in the first eight months of 2023, according to the country’s Ministry of Hotels and Tourism on Wednesday.
Between January and August this year, 558,199 visitors entered Myanmar via border gates, and 193,017 tourists visited the country via air route, the ministry said.
China, Thailand, Japan, South Korea and India were the biggest sources of tourist arrivals in Myanmar during the eight-month period, the ministry said.
Tourist arrivals in Myanmar have significantly risen in the first eight months of 2023, as compared to 233,487 travelers who visited Myanmar during the whole year of 2022, the ministry’s figures showed.
Myanmar has been taking various measures, including holding its first travel fair in January this year since the outbreak of the pandemic, to promote the pandemic-hit tourism sector.
Before the pandemic, the Southeast Asian country received more than 4.36 million tourists in 2019, official figures showed.

Les vols directs entre le Myanmar et la troisième plus grande ville de Russie, Novossibirsk, ont commencé à fonctionner le 5 septembre. Le ministre de l’Hôtellerie et du Tourisme, Thet Thet Khaing, a déclaré lors d’une réunion début septembre que le ministère prévoyait d’assouplir les restrictions de visa pour attirer davantage de touristes.”
